Mapping the Net. Log Transcript 3. " (...) during the peak of the online crisis, the interaction focused on the issue was so intense and transformative that it was difficult to distinguish between actors and their environments (Activists or worried consumers? Commercial war or health rights?) Since 2001´s first quarter the discussion and activity related to aspartame and the client´s consumer products has settled down into a number of interactive sites that act as “attractors” and provide a certain stability, and even predictability. If we consider the Internet as a behavior system. We could say that the time it takes to settle down into a stable state, is also a measure of the system stability. Let’s remember that this perception crisis about sweeteners was one of the Net’s longest episodes. It took some time before the issue could anchor itself into an identifiable stakeholder system. The problem today is how to address the heretic “library” of negative references (48,97 %) that still remain as the predominant voice in the Internet."
From Dr Linda Beckerman´s notebook II. Non-linear systems have the capacity to exhibit multiple stable states. This is termed a bifurcation diagram. The far left hand side of the diagram represents systems that are mono-stable and upon perturbation will eventually settle down to a single static or steady state condition. Just to the right of this region, the system "bifurcates". This merely means that there are two states available to the system. For one range of perturbations and conditions, the system will settle down to one state and for another range of perturbations and conditions, it will settle down to another state. As we progress towards the right, each branch splits, and then each branch further splits resulting in a rapid increase the number of stable states. On the far right hand side are those that are Chaotic. Chaotic systems appear to have an infinite number of potentially stable states. But they never settle down to any of these for long and are therefore considered to be unstable.
Mapping the Net. Log Transcript 2. " (...) in this particular case the evidence of online activism goes back to 1995. Initially, the anti – messages followed a viral dispersion pattern mainly through chain letters from mouth to mouse; newsgroup and BBS postings. With the ascent of the world wide web these texts were uploaded as webpages in thousands of websites, creating a fabric of mutually hyperlinked contents. We found newsgroups provide a solid testimonial resource. In these the activity started in the mid nineties and almost stopped the first quarter of 2001. During this period certain activists have been extremely active. Moderating email lists and webforums such as Yahoo Groups and placing well coordinated online interventions."
The behaviour of systems with near-critical connectivity is essentially chaotic and may be an important source of variety in the Net´s biology
From Dr Linda Beckerman´s notebook.
In non-linear systems the emergent behavior of the whole is greater (or could be less) than the simple addition of the interactions. In all systems, the interactions between agents become inputs to each other. Emergent behavior is simply the collective behavior that results from interactions between agents, whose individual behavior is other than the emergent behavior. Would this be a valid definition of the Net?

Although we did reset these functions on the bot, we decided to add an outgoing hyperlink detection spider. It seems we are working on a finite (and “self-contained”) universe of URLs. We are identifying the outgoing hyperlinks from each url and then looking for matches within our url list. This cross reference is not only essential for your analysis but also provides us of the necessary information to find a “place” for each node in our
strategic map. I wonder if those nodes with a strong cross referencing will be ... "attracted"?
Sinergy Projects is a collective behavior. The convergence of three very different perspectives. A mathematician, an artist and a strategist which do not obey the rule of additivity. The result is sinergetic: The emergence of ideas-products that are greater than the simple addition of their interactions. Apparently there are three basic problems that animate sinergy projects. These are how to represent complex information; how to distinguish patterns within a universe of complex interrelated agents and how to recognize which a winning strategy.
